1. Project Title
Innovation policies and economic measures for sustainable development and inequality mitigation after global crises
PRIN 2022
Period: 28/09/2023 – 28/02/2026
2. Project Description
The project develops an agent‑based modelling platform to assess innovative policy measures
ex‑ante in a virtual laboratory. By enriching the EURACE model with innovation networks and
processes, it explores policy mixes that can foster sustainable development and reduce inequality
across Italy and its regional economies.
3. Project Objectives
- Develop an enriched agent‑based modelling platform (EURACE) integrating innovation processes and networks among firms to better capture complex economic dynamics.
- Evaluate ex‑ante the impact of innovative policies on sustainable development and inequality mitigation.
- Model and analyse innovation networks between capital goods producers and consumption goods producers to accelerate technological and process innovation.
- Simulate economic and social outcomes for Italy and its regions, considering territorial heterogeneity in innovation capacity and development paths.
- Provide policy guidelines for national and regional governments to foster innovation‑driven sustainable growth and reduce inequalities.
4. Partners and Stakeholders Involved
Coordinator:
- prof. Silvano Cincotti
Partners:
- prof. Linda Ponta (UNIGE), prof. Raffaella Manzini (LIUC), prof. Cristina Ponsiglione (UNINA)
5. Budget and Financing
Budget: 199273€
Financing institution: MIUR
Call: PRIN 2022
6. Expected Impacts and Benefits
- Advancement of agent‑based modelling for policy design, providing an enriched EURACE platform capable of analysing complex interactions.
- Improved evidence‑based policymaking, allowing governments to evaluate ex‑ante the effects of fiscal, monetary, social and innovation policies, reducing the risk of ineffective or
harmful interventions. - Support for sustainable development and inequality mitigation, offering insights on how policy mixes can foster innovation‑driven growth and reduce disparities across regions.
- Economic and social benefits for regions and firms, enabling better strategies for territorial development, resilience after crises, and innovation diffusion through networks.
- Enhanced capacity of practitioners and policy makers, through a simulation tool that makes long‑term impacts more visible and manageable in complex decision‑making environments.
