Plant Technologies and Simulation – Simulation Units in Genoa and Savona

The laboratory is dedicated to advanced research in the field of Modeling and Simulation (M&S), a strategic discipline that enables the recreation and analysis of reality through mathematical models and digital simulations. Its main goal is to support experimentation, design, engineering, training, and capability assessment activities by providing innovative solutions across a wide range of sectors.

The laboratory covers the entire lifecycle of models and simulators: from planning and design to development, implementation, verification, validation, and accreditation, using advanced computing platforms and cloud-based solutions. Simulation is understood as the virtual reproduction of reality, allowing the construction of environments in which the dynamic evolution of complex systems can be observed under different scenarios and targeted experiments.

Among the research areas, emerging paradigms such as MS2G (Modeling, interoperable Simulation & Serious Games) and MSaaS (Modeling & Simulation as a Service) stand out, focusing on interoperability and the usability of models in multidisciplinary contexts. The application of these technologies ranges from logistics to industrial plant management, from project planning to national defense and security.

The laboratory involves an interdisciplinary team of experts from the University of Genoa and international institutions, who contribute their expertise in modeling, simulation, information systems, and the development of complex virtual environments, consolidating the laboratory’s position as an international reference point in the M&S field.
