MECSPE 2026: DIME presents the results of applied research for the factory of the future

From March 4 to 6, 2026, the Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management, and Transport Engineering (DIME) of the University of Genoa participated, as a guest of NEOS/ENVISION, in MECSPE 2026, the leading Italian event dedicated to advanced manufacturing technologies. The event brought together over 2,000 exhibiting companies and numerous players in research, industry, and technological innovation in Bologna.

During the event, DIME presented some of the most recent applied research activities developed in collaboration with NICIM AI and related companies and technology partners, with particular focus on the digitalization of production systems, artificial intelligence applied to industry, and the evolution of factory organizational models.

The initiatives outlined are part of the FoF Liguria 5.0 Research Infrastructure – Factory of the Future Liguria, promoted by DIME as an integrated platform for the development and transfer of advanced technological solutions to the regional manufacturing system. The infrastructure is designed as a research and experimentation ecosystem aimed at supporting businesses, particularly SMEs, in transformation processes related to digitalization, energy sustainability, and the evolution of production models.

Within this framework, results and applications developed within the node dedicated to intelligent systems for industrial process governance were presented. This node focuses on the design of digital models and cognitive platforms for decision support in complex manufacturing environments. Research activities focused specifically on the integration of advanced simulation systems, artificial intelligence, and production process orchestration models, with the aim of improving operational efficiency, supply chain resilience, and the adaptability of industrial organizations.

Participation in MECSPE represented an important opportunity to enhance the role of DIME in the development of applied research geared towards industry, strengthening the dialogue between universities and businesses and contributing to the dissemination of innovation models based on collaboration between research, technology, and the production system. In this context, the IR FoF Liguria 5.0 confirms its position as a leading platform for experimentation and technology transfer to Ligurian technology developers and Italian manufacturing companies, with the aim of supporting companies in their transformation journeys towards the factory of the future.
